📖 Content Length & SEO — What the Research Shows

Minimum for ranking: Most competitive searches require at least 800–1,000 words of genuine content. Thin pages (under 300 words) almost never rank for anything beyond brand searches.

The sweet spot for blog posts: Articles between 1,200–2,500 words consistently perform best across most niches. They're long enough to cover a topic in depth, short enough to be readable in one sitting.

Long-form for competitive keywords: For highly competitive head terms, comprehensive guides of 2,500–5,000+ words give you the depth needed to outrank established sites. But length must be justified — padding words reduce quality.

Sentence length matters too: Aim for an average sentence length of 15–20 words. Sentences over 30 words are difficult to follow online. Short sentences keep readers engaged and reduce bounce rate.

Quality over quantity: Google evaluates content depth, not word count. 800 words that fully answer a question outperforms 3,000 words of fluff. Use word count as a minimum quality signal, not an end goal.
